Within minutes, wet foam will . . .
A few weeks ago I was inspired to fill in gaps and cracks around this old house. Keep the critters out and warm air in. I think about this every fall/winter but rarely get around to it, so there are no shortage of gaps and cracks to get to. After an appointment I find myself next to Lowes and head inside.
"I need that foam stuff," I say to the nice man wearing a blue vest.
"Which kind?" he says, before seeing confusion spread across my face. "There is foam for small cracks, the big gap filler, a fireplace foam, a black colored foam. . ."
He takes me to the display and leaves me to guess. I make a choice and head home. The weather has been fantastic for early December so I pop the cap off the can, twist on the applicator straw, and get to work.
Warning #4 on the can says to cover all skin. Do you ever read the warnings on these things? Me neither. That warning, it turns out, is because if you get expanding foam on your fingers it does not want to come off. Like, ever.
It's been a week of nail polish remover, friction, and red, raw skin.
If I winced when shaking hands with you, don't take it personally.
