Techniques for FIT

  • Humans are great at being human. Watch thousands of people leaving an event. We rarely trip.
  • Robots say, "what do you want me to do?" Humans have a point of view.
  • You want your job to be hard because at soon as it can be boiled down to bullet points and sequenced events, it's worth less.
  • What's the quickest way to FIT? Trick question, there is no quick way. It's a process.

Being Human - It's simple, but not easy

New business initiatives frequently sit on the shelf.

Why is that?

It’s because the tendency is to make everything more complex than it needs to be.

The world is complex, but in order for us to be effective we need to simplify. We need to make new business initiatives simple, make them human.

Otherwise we won’t get it done.

Random Stuff

What do you do all day?

This next year I am going to do more video blog posts. That involves getting a camera and since my daughter is artistic, it will be good to get a DSLR so she can do art things while I use it for boring commerce.

It arrives and the thing is impossibly complex. But I know that going in and I'm determined to experiment and discover how to get the most from it. During the day, there isn't much for me to photograph, so I start taking pictures of Wilson, the border collie mix. It turns out the camera has a "burst" mode. As long as you hold the button down, the camera keeps firing. Hundreds and hundreds of nearly identical pictures of the dog.

Satisfied that I have the new toy mastered, I set the camera down.

It's now a week later and my daughter grabs the camera and I can see her eyebrows working as she messes with the settings and looking at the pictures in the viewer.

"Dad?" she says.

"Yes," I say.

"What, exactly, do you do all day?"
