The heat this week is brutal.
Our house faces east, which means that the afternoon sun beats on the back of the house where my office is. 60 years ago, a previous owner had the foresight to plant two big trees in the yard. As the old Chinese proverb goes, "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago."
What the proverb doesn't say is what type of tree to plant. They planted evergreens. Which means no big leafy canopy for me. With no canopy, there's no relief from the laser like sunshine.
The second part of the proverb adds, "The second best time is now." That hurts because I've been blaming the previous owners for my summer sunshine/no shade problem going on 15 years now.
It's planning time for 2017 and companies will be asking the question, where do we want to be next year?
It's a good question. Humans are not great at predicting the future.
My advice is to keep your plans flexible.
