Thoughts on FIT and Finding New Business

  • We know what we want, but it's not easy to get there. The reasons vary because each step we take creates a new set of realities to deal with. The destination may look fixed on the horizon, but the path to get there varies
  • Public accountability is so effective it's taught as a persuasive technique. ". . .but you said. . . You don't want to go back on your word, do you?" It's okay to reconsider.
  • The most powerful accountability partner looks at you in the mirror every morning. Asking yourself each day about the progress you're making toward results is strong medicine.
  • A robot could help with accountability. It never forgets, it's unbiased, and the feedback is private. It's addictive and might lead to dependency, but it works.

Being Human - Building momentum

"A problem shared is a problem halved."

I have an idea I'm testing. The SalesMomentumMindset App. The idea is designed to help salespeople build momentum for a sales related activity of their choice. It might be a companion to my upcoming book, “The Sales Momentum Mindset: Igniting and Sustaining Sales Force Momentum.” Research has shown that a daily record of an activity you want to build momentum in is the most effective way to speed up results. This app is designed to help with that.

The app sends daily SMS texts asking a single question about your progress. Weekly SMS texts will show your weekly results.

At four weeks a SMS text will summarize your activity.

At that time you can either continue with the same priority or start a new one.

Why am I telling you this?

If you have something you'd like to build momentum in, I am looking for people to test a demo version. Send me a note with an activity you'd like to build momentum in:

I'll put you on the pre-launch tester list. Early results are promising.

Random Stuff

"Are we not men?"

This weekend we're off to celebrate a milestone in a young person's life. A graduation. This person happens to be my goddaughter, and she is finishing law school. Smart young woman.

To get there we're driving. It's not a short drive. It would be easier to fly, but we didn't consider it. After 3 hours on the road I'm wondering why flying isn't a consideration. The thing I've come up with is freedom of choice. When we drive we have a few more options for how the day unfolds. It's not much, but it's something. (maybe choice and not standing in line)

This reminds me of DEVO. Freedom of Choice. It's what you want. And it has one of my favorite verses, which goes something like:

"In ancient Rome, there was a poem, about a dog, who has two bones. He licks the one, he licks the other, he goes in circles. He is now dead!"

Maybe I should have flown.
