Thoughts on Solving

  • Encourage your people to exercise their brains with some “what might have to take place for _______ to happen” scenarios. We humans are problem-solving machines.
  • Does your customer service team give options when solving problems? They should. Research shows customers are happier with options versus take-it-or-leave-it choices.
  • The nature of problems is they originated at some point in the past. If you have to solve one, start by figuring out when and where it originated before applying solutions.
  • The value of a solution comes from a combination of the problem being solved and the importance of solving it. Not every problem needs to be solved. Sometimes it's "cheaper" to manage the problem than to apply a solution.

Being Human - Mindset

"I'm somebody now! Millions of people look at this book every day! This is the kind of spontaneous publicity - your name in print - that makes people. I'm in print!' – Steve Martin in The Jerk

Greg-Chambers-holds-his-new-book

Advance copies of my new book arrived Wednesday. Fresh off the presses! "The Sales Momentum Mindset: Igniting and Sustaining Sales Force Motivation." All the best people are predicting it will look amazing on your bookshelf.

And looking good on your bookshelf is a big thing, isn't it?

Greg, people ask when they see my bookshelf, did you really read all those books? Before I can answer they say something like, gee-whiz, you must be smart. (in my mind the person I'm talking to is a kid on a 50's sitcom)

Yes, I reply, many books = big smarts.

Just what will this book make you smarter about, you ask?

If you've ever thought, "I need to light a fire under my people," or as an old boss used to say "let's make these monkeys jump". . .(yes, he was a terrible person), this book will show you another way to get results. It changes the question to "how do I keep my people in motion?"

This change in mindset is what drives the results.

To ease your brain into this mindset. I'll send a free copy of my companion booklet, "Sales Momentum 101: The Momentum Listicle for Successful Sales Professionals" to get you started.

Momentum Book and Bonus Booklet

Over 300 bulleted points for salespeople and sales managers introducing the sales momentum mindset.

Good stuff.

"Nothing like sitting in a pool of your own filth right?"

A-border-collie-enjoying-a-luxurious-bubble-bath

When was the last time you took a bubble bath?

I am listening to the radio and the host is listing things her listener may be doing right now. Driving, getting ready for work, sitting at their desk, taking a bubble bath. . .

I'm not a bath guy. I don't know when it started, but at some point, I was asked about baths or showers and I took a stand. Not a bath guy, I said, and since that time I haven't taken a bath, let alone a bubble bath. I don't even put Wilson the ABC in the bath. If the weather's nice, we use the hose, and if it's cold, he visits the nice lady at the grooming salon.

If you're wondering what Wilson's been up to, this week he is patiently dealing with our new patio neighbors. Barn swallows love a little nook in the pergola and each fall a new couple moves in, throws out the old nesting materials, and puts new bits in. Messy business. Wilson watches them work while ignoring the constant chirping and occasional buzzing of the tower while he's out there. Some part of me thinks it stresses him out seeing other creatures busy with work. I know I get a little itchy and need to move just hearing someone talk about how busy they are. And I'm not filled to brim with working group DNA like he is. So stressful.

We might need to soften our stance on the bubble bath thing.
