Techniques for FIT

  • Buyers develop buying habits based on experiences with seller's selling practices. In other words, how you have been "sold to" will determine how you approach a buying decision. That's not good news.
  • I think about that each time I land on a webpage that launches a full screen email pop-up ad that covers the page text. It's a reflex to search for the X in the corner or angily click "I don't like saving money."

  • Am I missing out on something? Maybe. In the land of plenty, that's probably not a big deal.

  • However, it may be something a client needs. An idea that gets linked to another idea that results in millions in sales. So, I go back and click away. FOMO in full effect.

Being Human - Travel

"When you travel, remember that a foreign country is not designed to make you comfortable. It is designed to make its own people comfortable." - Clifton Fadiman

A friends returns from a trip abroad and takes the better part of an hour to explain the cultural nuances he lived through while immersed in a foreign culture for two weeks. I soak up his enthusiasm and take note of his experiences. It's infectious.

Separately, my friend Mario informs me that he just visited his 130th country. He quotes Leonard Nimoy,  "Life is like a garden, perfect moments can be had but not preserved except in memory."

The lesson? We need to travel more.

Here's to your perfect moments. Cheers.

Random Stuff

Do you like awkward dancing?

I have a friend named Dan. Every time he comes to mind, it's accompanied by the Elton John song, Daniel. You know, "Daniel's arriving tonight on a plane."

A few weeks ago it occured to me that I didn't really know the lyrics or what the song meant. I've been singing it for most of my life, but never really dug into the details of the Pinball Wizard's song. So I did it, looking up the lyrics.

Turns out Bernie Taupin wrote the song about a disillusioned Vietnam vet. A bit of a downer. And there's some missing third verse story and a fight about which single on that album to release first, Daniel or Crocodile Rock. Fun stuff.

Armed with this new knowledge, I head over to YouTube and pull up this video: https://youtu.be/0f0TMfQNRk8. It's hilarious.

If you don't want to click, just imagine that song. Slow tempo, serious, vague, sad lyrics. Then imagine Elton John in his early sparkly 70's glory on one of those Top of the Pops shows with the studio dancers. Everyone is trying to pretend it's some sort of disco tune and the dancing cracks me up. "Do you still feel the pain, of the scars that won't heal?" with pretty co-eds swaying back and forth. It cracks me up.

Good stuff.
