Techniques for FIT

  • Take a mental health day. Leave the to-do lists and holiday hustle behind. Turn off social media and turn up some music. Pet the dog, take a walk, show up at the movie theater and pick a movie you might not otherwise see. Give yourself permission to wander around for a bit.

  • Learn something new. I just listened to the stoy of Ben and Jerry from Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. They learned ice cream making from a correspondence course. You're great at what you do, so take an hour to pick up a different skill.

  • Eliminate some item in your life that you've decided to "just live with." A noisy dishwasher, an office chair that's "still got some life in it," an aging laptop computer. Get an irritant out of your day-to-day existence.

  • Plan a trip. Talk to travel agents, get the brochures, find some guidebooks, and ask friends for advice. Get from a high level abstraction down to details. Make it happen.

Being Human - Grinding

Rut a tut tut. . .

Part of being human is the ability to pause. I used to work for Mr. Carl and he said something like, "Gregory, the difference between you and your cat is that you can pause. Your cat is all STIMULUS-RESPONSE, but you can add a pause in there." He'd stomp the floor and tell me that a cat hears that and jumps, but we can pause for a sec and ask ourself, "why is he stomping?"

Next week, consider places in your day where you've eliminated your pause. Where you've turned into the cat and simply respond to a regular, repeating stimulus. Add a pause. Ask yourself, "why am I doing this, in this way? Where did this come from?"

Pause.

The future

Emerging Behaviors: Consumer Trends with the Greatest Impact

I talk a lot about robots. It's becoming a favorite topic.

I just need to remind myself that technology is the last part of FIT.

Good stuff.
