Techniques for FIT

  • Members of the human race are amazing. Did you see the 60 Minutes sickle cell story? Gene therapy using weakened HIV viruses? What?!?

  • I bumped into this yesterday, another fellow human has taken PI out into 31 trillion digits. Look at this 538 graph,
    31-trillion-digits-in-pi

  • We humans aren't only discovering new things, there's evidence we're killing each other less too. (current headlines notwithstanding) From Pinker's book "Better Angels. . ."
    Better-Angels-Europe-Homicide

  • On this Ides of March, let's consider our seemingly limitless human capacity to create. After that, let's figure out how to get down to Carnival because I hear humans make that too.

Being Human - Don't complain

As we head into March Madness, complaining is on my mind.

Don't Complain

Human beings aren’t permanently rooted to one place, thought or circumstance. So do as your ancestors did: adapt, migrate, or perish. Or, to put it differently: try, fly or die. You’re in control, so try to maximize your current position, or go find a new playground, or accept your fate. Just don’t complain.

Good stuff.

Podcasts are so 2017

Last week I buzzed through recent books I've read and this week I'm listing some podcasts. Most podcasts run through your brain like water through your hands, so I'm going to tell you about some pods I like with an episode that sticks with me.

How I Built This with Guy Raz
Zumba: Beto Perez & Alberto Perlman

My advice on most podcasts is everything in moderation, How I Built This especially. This episode was ho-hum until Pitbull shows up and Zumba as distribution channel happens.

Studio 360
Why Yanni Happened

Remember the days before Yanni? How about knowing John Tesh played music? What if I told you that you know their music because of PBS. Yes, in this episode learn about the PBS fundraiser as a promotion and distribution channel.

Men In Blazers
Two English ex-pats talking about the Premier League. Snoozy, right? Wrong! They're hilarious. The interviews with Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp offer great accented insights on management/leadership.

The JJ Redick Podcast
Thierry Henry on Basketball vs. Soccer
EPL reminds me of this NBAer vs. exEPLer interview. My favorite part is when the talk turns to player development and talent spotting. (Couple with the Men In Blazers talking analytics in the NBA and the Premier League

NBA talk reminds me of Bill Simmons' podcast, which is heavy on lists heavy-heavy on Boston sports. That said, I did enjoy his visit with chef Dave ChangFood Trends of 2018

The list goes on and on. I tend to enjoy produced podcasts versus off the cuff rambles, interviews versus monologues, and entertainment versus news.

Wrapping this up, at the end of the day, when I need a laugh my go to podcast is always Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast. Something about that guy and his uninformed rambling I find irresistible. My wife just shrugs her shoulders, but just thinking about him saying "Zip reCRUITAAAH" makes me smile.

A second set of ears

Want an unfair advantage in your next presentation? Get a second set of ears. It's amazing what that does to move a conversation forward. https://calendly.com/chamberspivot
