This one came up twice yesterday.
(which may or may not mean something. . .Netflix vs. Amazon Prime came up twice too)

Some quick thoughts.

– Driving organic traffic from SEO isn’t free.

– Pay Per Click (PPC) isn’t always the fastest path to results.

– Don’t automatically drop paid ads for high ranking Organic terms

–  Broad match login for Paid phrases sometimes works best.

There’s no secrets to this game. You take a position and test it against expected results. Use better tools as they come along and spot check against controls.

Sounds simple and it can be.

So my answer to the Paid vs Organic question?

Both.
